A vining plant with pods up to 70 cm long. It is recommended to grow the seedlings in a greenhouse, as asparagus beans are very heat-loving. Sow 3-4 seeds in a seedling pot filled with a germination medium at a depth of 3 cm in April. Plant outdoors after the spring frosts in fertile soil in a sunny position sheltered from the wind. Supports about 3 m long are required. Plant spacing 40 cm. Immature pods and dry grains are used for food. The slender pods contain no wood fibres.
